See Pilobolus

See Pilobolus at the Joyce Theatre (19th and 8th Ave.)

This dance group is amazingly innovative--I first knew of them from their better-known work with silhouettes (I even noticed their work on some car commercials once I knew about them), but surprisingly, none of the performance included this work. I saw Program 2, and the dance I was most amazed with was one in which the dancers placed a camera under a glass table and danced on top. The audience could watch simultaneously the dancers and the video from a new angle projected on the other side of the stage--some of their movements created something like a kaleidoscope image on the screen, while at other times, the dancers would slide over the glass table. The dancers are so fearless with exploring movement you don't normally see. The whole performance was so inspiring, and I'm hoping to see the other two programs. I can't really do the experience justice in writing about it, so see it for yourself! Tickets start at $10.
